Homemade Dynamite Shrimp

My favorite Chinese bistro has the best Dynamite Shrimp you’ve ever had! The kind you wish you take home with you even after you’ve had a full meal, dessert, and then some.

So while at the mall the other day, I was in a rush so I got take out, meaning, the shrimp wasn’t coated in the dynamite sauce, and it had slightly separated when I got home, which is when I found the secret ingredient to copycatting this recipe at home.

  • 15 – 20 Large Shrimps
  • Salt/Pepper
  • Tempura Batter

Sauce Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 TBSP Tabasco Sauce (more if you can handle the heat)
  • ¼ Cup chopped scallions
  • 3 TBSP French Dressing (The ultimate secret ingredient was this instead of ketchup)
  • 1 TSP Smoked Paprika (Or Chili powder if you like)
  • 1 TSP Sesame Oil
  • 1 TSP Rice Vinegar
  • 1 TSP Honey

Garnish Ingredients

  • Additional scallions
  • Cabbage leaves

  • Mix all sauce ingredients together in a bowl, and set aside
  • Set a pan with frying oil on heat
  • Season shrimps with salt/pepper, then dredge into tempura batter
  • Place the shrimp to fry on medium-hot oil until batter is gold
  • Drain excess oil from shrimps, then toss in sauce
  • Serve on a plate or in a glass over a bed of cabbage leaves, and garnish with additional scallions

Hi Fadi, I didn’t make the tempura paste from scratch, i used store bought tempura powder, depending on the manufacturer you could need to mix with water, eggs, or milk. I would just follow the package instructions for tempura.
